One hundred miles from Manchester

This is a mobile outfit. The truck carries a diesel welder, leads and wire feeders, which means steel work based in Manchester is not the same thing as steel work that has to come back to Manchester. The equipment goes where the job is.

A hundred miles from Manchester is a wide circle. Boston and Portland both sit about ninety minutes away, and the recorded town list runs from Nashua and Concord out to Portsmouth, Keene, Laconia and across the state line.

Work has gone further than that. When another steel company brings us in for a weld scope they cannot cover, the job has been out of state and well beyond the radius. If you are outside the circle and the work is structural, it is still worth the call.

The home state

New Hampshire

The home state, and where the company is based.

Recent steel has gone up in Bedford, with joist and panel point reinforcement in Londonderry and T-beam stitch welding on existing steel in Salem. Moment connection work has run up to Lebanon.

Portsmouth and the seacoast are about an hour out, and the steel there is typically industrial: new construction and rehab both. Jobs get posted on Instagram as they happen.

Over the line

Massachusetts

Roughly half the recent project list is over the state line, almost all of it commercial.

Boston is about ninety minutes, and the steel there is typically new-construction apartment buildings with retail space underneath. Recent work has also run to Middleborough, Walpole, Chestnut Hill and Sudbury — reinforcement and grillage, erection, and a full stair replacement respectively.

Massachusetts jobs generally come through a general contractor or another steel erection company rather than direct, which is worth knowing if you are the one holding the bid list.

The far side of the circle

Maine and Vermont

Portland, ME is about ninety minutes out, the same as Boston. The steel there is typically apartment complexes and retail space.

Southern Maine inside the radius is covered on the same terms as anywhere else. Vermont falls inside the circle on its eastern side and is worked, though most of the recent project list sits in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

No travel fee, and what that actually means

Travel is not charged separately. It is included in the job estimate.

That is not the same as pretending distance is free. It means the drive is accounted for inside the estimate rather than added to it afterwards. For a job an hour out, the estimate is written knowing it is an hour out.

Coverage questions

Coverage Details

Q.01

Is there a minimum job size for the longer drives?

None is set. No job is too big or too small, and that holds at the edge of the radius as well as in Manchester. The drive is accounted for inside the estimate rather than charged separately, so a small job further out simply prices as what it is.

Q.02

Do you charge for a site visit?

No. Free estimates, always. On anything structural the second step is walking the job in person and going through the drawings on site, and that visit is not billed whether the work comes through or not.

Q.03

Do you work in Massachusetts as often as New Hampshire?

Close to it. Recent work runs Middleborough, Walpole, Chestnut Hill and Sudbury, most of it for general contractors and steel erection companies rather than direct clients.

Q.04

What if my job is outside the 100 miles?

Call anyway if it is structural. Steel companies have brought us out of state for weld scope before, and the radius describes where the work normally is, not a fence.
